Personal Information
Place of birth: Anatolikon (official name: Etolikon) of Etoloakarnania, Greece.
Primary and secondary education: In Athens and in Patras.
Military service: Gunner and radio operator in main battle tanks, for almost two years.
Occupation: Editor, Literary text corrector, Writer, and Scientific researcher.
Education
Graduate of the 4th grade of the Ecclesiastical High School of Patras (secondary vocational education).
After his military service he studied at the Theological School at the University of Athens (1992-1996) and he is a graduate of the Faculty of Social Theology. His thesis, in the section of Hagiology and Hymnology, having as a Supervising Professor the hagiologist P. V. Paschos, was under the topic of “Saint Dionysios the miraculous of 16th century”, and was nominated with the grade “Excellent”.
At the same time he studied Byzantine musicology having as a tutor the musicologist Gregorios Th. Stathis (in the same Theological School), and he attended courses in Ancient Greek, Linguistics and Pedagogy in the School of Philosophy of the same University.
On June 2003 he received his diploma (MA) in “Byzantine Music” by the Conservatory School “Romanos the Melodist”, Amphiali, Piraeus, with grade “Excellent”. His thesis was under the topic of “Chourmouzios Chartophylax and the Music Reformation of 1814”, having as a Supervising Professor the music-pedagogist Ioannis Simos.
On July 2011 he was awarded Doctor of the University of Athens, in the Sector of “Byzantine Musicology and Ecclesiastical Ritual”. His doctoral thesis was under the topic of “Georgios Violakis, the first cantor, the musicologist, the ‘typicologist’ (1820-1911)”, having as a Supervising Professor the musicologist Gregorios Th. Stathis. This thesis was tripartite (1st part historical-philological, 2nd part musicological, 3rd part typicological-liturgical) and was unanimously nominated from the Faculty of Music Studies of the School of Philosophy in Athens with the grade “Excellent”.
Philology
Excellent knowledge of spelling and polytonic system of the Ancient Greek, Puristic and Modern Greek.
Research and publishing of manuscripts. Critical editions from manuscripts. Linguistic and paleographic studies.
Special studies on Homer and Thucydides, on Hellenistic common language as well as on the Byzantine literature and philology.

During 2000-2003 he taught Ancient and Modern Greek, Composition, and Latins in private tutorial schools of secondary education (Athens), and he wrote tutorial books.
Theology and Ritual of Church
Scholar and interpreter of the Old and New Testament. Long occupation with the translation and the interpretation of the Scriptures.
Special studies on dogmatic, heretical and novel religious issues.
Canon Law and interpretation of the sacred Canons.
Hagiological studies. Writing of hagiological essays. Director of hagiological editorial series.
Delimitation of the Orthodox faith and special studies on Christian symbolic. Studies on early Latin Patrology.
Introduction to Religious Studies. History and doctrine of Islam. General consideration of Eastern religions.
He has studied a lot of manuscripts and printed rituals, old and modern, most of them dated after the 9th century. He has also written a lot of issues on various subjects concerning the ecclesiastical ritual, some of which are still unpublished.
Since January 2003 he has been editor-in-chief of the magazine “Symbole” (an ecclesiastical ritual review), which is the only Greek magazine that deals with the ritual (typikon) of the Orthodox Church.
During 2004 - 2008 he taught ecclesiastical ritual (typikon) and Liturgics in educational units of varius levels and seminars.
Byzantine and General Music
During 2003 - 2006 he taught “Theory and Practice of Greek Music” in “Music Secondary School” and “21st Primary School” of Piraeus, and “Byzantine-Greek Music” in varius seminars.
Since 1985 until today he is a cantor in various temples of Greece and especially in Attica.
Individual study of Greek music Theorists of ancient and modern times (Kleonides, Alypius, Plutarch of Athens, Chrysanthus from Madytos, Chourmouzios Chartophylax, etc.)
Archive of recordings (mostly privately) with ecclesiastical hymns from well known cantors and choirs but also from unknown traditional practice cantors. This archive includes more than 1500 tapes and certain number of digital recordings.
Collection of traditional Greek Folk music and songs and Eastern music including private records from famous and unknown musicians and singers.
Collection of Classic (European) Music, including music masterpieces from European and Greek composers.
For the past few years he has been working on the digitizing of the above mentioned archives as well as its free distribution through his personal site “Symbole” (www.symbole.gr). This project is still in progress.

1985 - now. Working as editor, proof-reader, literary text corrector, and corrector of notation of Byzantine music (1985-1994 part time, 1994-now full time employment). This work includs also: a) the literary editing-spelling of texts in polytonic system in Ancient Greek, Puristic and Modern Greek; b) the linguistic editing-correction of Greek texts drawn from persons who do not have Greek as their mother tongue, c) other similar works on texts of Literary, Theology, Musicology, etc., written in Greek. He has cooperated with 13 different publishers and 15 writers on various issues (at about 300 books – 60.000 pages).
2004 - now. Associate of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, dealing with the writing of the annual ritual (typikon) and the editing of the annual “Diptycha” of the Church of Greece.
Writings and Articles
Since 1985 He has published about 390 articles in newspapers, magazines and the internet, with literary, theological, historical, musicological, and general themes.
